DRUG FREE SPORT NEW ZEALAND
Drug Free Sport New Zealand (DFSNZ) is a Crown Entity established by the New Zealand Sports Drug Agency Act 1994, and is continued by the Sport Anti-Doping Act 2006. DFSNZ receives public funding through Vote Sport and Recreation and is accountable for its performance to the Minister for Sport and Recreation and to Parliament.
Purpose/Functions:
The purpose of DFSNZ is to carry out sports drug testing of competitors within and outside New Zealand, implement sports drug sampling and testing measures in accordance with the legislation and the requirements of the World Anti-Doping Code, provide education on the use of drugs and doping methods in sport and advise government departments, sports organisations and the Minister on matters related to doping in sport.
Board Appointments:
The Drug Free Sport NZ Board consists of no more than five members including a Chair. Members may be appointed for terms of office not exceeding three years, and are eligible for reappointment.
Skills and Experience:
As well as the governance skills mentioned in the Governance front page, specific skills required for this Board include one or more of the following:
- An understanding of medical/legal issues.
- An interest in competitive sport.
- An appreciation of ethical issues.
Time Commitment:
4 half-day meetings per annum with substantial reading material provided in advance of each meeting. Board members also make up the Review Committee which considers every potential Anti-Doping Rule Violation.
