National Pacific Radio Trust
The National Pacific Radio Trust is a charitable trust, established to deliver a national Pacific radio network which will contribute to the Government's goals for reducing inequalities and building the capacity of Pacific communities.
Purpose/Function:
- Providing a communication mechanism linking Pacific communities regionally and nationally to debate topical issues;
- Building a pool of quality Pacific broadcasters;
- Providing opportunities for the maintenance of Pacific languages through programming in Pacific languages; and
- Supporting and enhancing exposure of Pacific music and artists.
Board Appointments:
The Trust Board has between 6 and 8 trustees. The Deed of Trust specifies the positions of Chair, Vice chair, Secretary, Treasurer and up to 4 additional Trustees.
Under the Trust Deed, while the Trust is receiving Crown funding, all trustees are appointed jointly by the Ministers of Broadcasting and Pacific Island Affairs, subject to agreement by Cabinet. Members are appointed for terms of up to three years and may be reappointed.
Skills and Experience:
As well as the governance skills mentioned on the Governance front page, specific skills required for this Board include:
- broadcasting experience
- cultural and geographic diversity
- credibility with stakeholders.
Time Commitment:
At least monthly, though more frequently as needed.
