Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC)
SPARC was established under the Sport and Recreation Act 2002. The role of SPARC is to promote, encourage and support physical recreation and sport in New Zealand. SPARC's mission is to have New Zealand being recognised as leading the world in its approach to sport and physical recreation sports through: being the most active nation; having athletes and teams winning consistently in events that matter to New Zealanders; and having the most effective sport and physical recreation systems. SPARC is a Crown entity under the Crown Entities Act 2004.
SPARC is fully funded by the Crown and its Board reports to the Minister for Sport and Recreation on its performance through the Ministry for Culture and Heritage.
