Artists to Antarctica Fellowships
Supported by Creative New Zealand and Antarctica New Zealand.
Frequency: Annual, for two artists to spend two weeks in the Antarctic.
Value: $10,000 plus transport to Antarctica, medical costs and accommodation on the ice.
Purpose: The Artists to Antarctica Programme aims to encourage artists in all disciplines to explore Antarctica in their work and thus increase understanding among New Zealanders of the value of Antarctica and its global importance.
Who: Serious scholars of the humanities including writers, illustrators, musicians, photographers, sculptors, choreographers and anyone who believes their art fits the criteria. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents.

When: By 1 March each year.

Arts Centre of Christchurch Artist-in-Residence
The scheme is funded by the Christchurch City Council and the Community Trust.
Value: $500 per week stipend, plus accommodation and studio space
Duration: 2-6 months
Purpose: The Arts Centre's Artist-in-Residence scheme aims to provide support and a creative environment for local artists and to give them the opportunity to interact with other artists. A major part of the scheme is for the resident artist to contribute to the local arts scene by involving the community in some way.
Who: Artists from across all disciplines, including visual arts, performing arts and literature are invited to submit proposals.

French Residency Programmes

Rathcoola Residency, Cork, Ireland
The residency is supported by the Richard and Sophie Nicoll Trust.
Frequency: Annual. Two residencies - one commencing 1January and one commencing 1 July each year.
Value: Equivalent of $A20,000 stipend, plus accommodation, studio space, use of a car and return airfare.
Duration: 25 weeks
Purpose: The residency provides writers and visual artists with an opportunity to further develop and concentrate their talents for an uninterrupted period of time in relaxing surroundings.
Who: The residency is open to writers and visual artists who must
- be New Zealand or Australian citizens, who are resident there.
- have a record of excellent achievement in their art form

Smash Palace Collaborations Fund
Supported by Creative New Zealand and the Ministry of Science Research and Technology
Value: Variable
Purpose: To provide seed funding to support collaborative projects between scientists and artists. The aim of the fund is to :
- Explore and test new ideas, services, processes or techniques
- Extend or cross the boundaries of the disciplines and/or fields of the collaborating parties in ways that have not been tried before
- Focus on tangible outcomes
- Have the potential to engage the wider New Zealand community in arts and science.

Wild Creations
Supported by Creative New Zealand and the Department of Conservation
Three residencies of up to 6 weeks duration.
Value: $5,000 plus $1,000 for travel and material costs
Purpose:
- To foster links between the conservation and arts communities
- To help promote a wider understanding of conservation values and awareness of conservation issues
- To provide New Zealand artists with an outstanding opportunity to experience the people, stories and challenges associated with our country's unique natural and historic heritage.
Criteria: It is expected the artists selected for the inaugural residencies will be New Zealand citizens or residents who are professional, practising artists with a track record of recognition and achievement in their art form or cultural tradition.

Waikato University Māori Department Artist-in-Residence
Supported by Te Waka Toi
Purpose: To provide the artist with an opportunity to pursue their own work and also work with students providing theoretical and practical tuition.

Non-Artform Specific awards
Arts Foundation of New Zealand Icon Awards
Purpose: To honour senior artists who are working at the peak of their careers and who have a significant and distinguished body of work behind them; have been dynamic and influential in their field; made a major contribution to their art form; and have an international standing or reputation.
Frequency: The first 10 Icon Awards will be made in 2003. In 2005 a further six artists will be celebrated with subsequent events maintaining a living circle of 20 Icon Artists. Awards ceremonies will be held every two years as required.
The award: Each artist will receive a specially commissioned medallion and pin. The artist will keep the pin in perpetuity. Following their death, their medallion (there will be 20 in all) will be presented to a successor at the next Icon Awards Ceremony. Thus the mana of each award will increase significantly over time.
How: Recipients are nominated by arts organisations, patrons and administrators and selected by Arts Foundation governors.

Arts Foundation of New Zealand Laureate Awards
Frequency: Annual. Frequency and number of future awards will be largely determined by available funds.
Value: $30,000 cash, plus bronze statuette by sculptor Terry Stringer, and a website
How: Recipients are selected by an expert peer panel.
Purpose: To recognise leaders in their artform whose richest work still lies ahead and whose art defines culture.

AMP Achievers Awards
Frequency: Annual
Value:
Up to 10 AMP Scholarships of up to $5,000 for one year
Up to two AMP Premium Scholarships of up to $20,000 over two years.
Premium Scholarship winners are selected from the AMP Scholarship winners.
Purpose: The Scholarships recognise and reward those who demonstrate the ability, application and attitude to successfully achieve their dreams.

The Clark Collection Scholarship
A collaboration between Errol Clark, Creative New Zealand and Museums Aotearoa
Frequency: Annual
Value: Covers travel and accommodation expenses to UK
Purpose: To allow mid-career heritage and decorative arts professionals to expand their knowledge of built-heritage and decorative arts by attending the Attingham Trust Summer School and a series of short internships in England.
Criteria: Open to mid-career heritage and decorative arts professionals, who are normally resident in New Zealand or are, for the time being, temporarily residing overseas but will return in the near future.

New Zealand Founders Society Annual research Award
Frequency: Annual
Duration: Academic year
Value: $1,500
Purpose: The Award is made for research in the areas of national or local history but not for research into personal family backgrounds, family trees or pure genealogy. However, a full length account or biography of a founding family or family member could be accepted provided the topic has general appeal.
Criteria: The research can be a finite part of a larger piece of research, but must be able to be published alone.
Research must be completed within one year following notification of winning the Award, or within a time limit agreed to by the National Executive of the Society prior to the payment of the first installment of the Award or subsequently.

New Zealand Winston Churchill Memorial Trust Fellowship
Administered by the Department of Internal Affairs
Frequency: Annual
Value: The average for grants is from NZ$5,000 to NZ$7,000.
Purpose: Churchill Fellowships are intended for travel, typically short term of between three weeks and three months duration, for intensive investigative research.
Criteria: Fellowships are granted for travel outside New Zealand only.

The Senior Pacific Islands Artist Award
Value: $7,000
Purpose: This award recognises the contribution and role of a senior Pacific Islands artist in maintaining or developing their art form in New Zealand.
The Iosefa Enari Memorial Award
Value: $3,000
Purpose: For study or travel to support the development of Pacific Islands opera singers.
The Pacific Innovation and Excellence Award
Value:$5,000
Purpose: To recognise an established Pacific Islands artist or group, reflecting innovation and excellence in his/her chosen art form.
The Emerging Pacific Islands Artist Award
Value: $3,000
Purpose: To recognise an emerging Pacific Islands artist or group, showing promise in his/her chosen art form.
Pacific Heritage Arts Award
Value: $5,000
Purpose: To recognise a Pacific Islands artist or group who have made a significant contribution to the maintenance, revival and promotion of a Pacific heritage artform in New Zealand.
Salamander Gallery Award for Emerging Pacific Visual Artists
Value: $3,000
Purpose: To recognise an emerging Pacific Islands artist showing promise in the field of visual arts.
Stout Fellowship
Frequency: Annual
Value: The salary for the Fellowship will be with the Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow's scale (currently $47,125 - $68,561 per annum) depending upon the qualifications and experience of the applicant. An allowance for travel and research may be negotiated.
Duration: 12 months
Purpose: The fellowship is open to researchers in any area of study relating to New Zealand society, history or culture, but is not intended to fund the writing of a novel, play or other literary work.
Criteria: Applicants should be scholars of high standing who have a particular project they wish to initiate or complete.
