Regional Cultural Statistics

The boundaries used are the Regional Council Boundaries.

Cultural Statistics and Indicators
Together with Statistics New Zealand, the Ministry has an on-going programme which provides high-quality statistical information about the cultural sector. In preparation is the development of a set of national cultural indicators. This work will be completed in early 2006. The most recent statistical information on the cultural sector is available in the following publications:
- Employment in the Cultural Sector (June 2005) - available on the Statistics New Zealand website. This report shows the changes in levels and distribution of employment in the cultural sector, highlighting the rapid growth and diversity within this sector. It covers employment in taonga tuku iho, heritage, library services, literature, performing arts, visual arts, film and video, broadcasting, and community and government activity. Demographics such as age, ethnicity, income, gender and education within each group are also examined.
- Government Spending on Culture (2000–2004) (June 2005) - available on the Statistics New Zealand website. This report looks at government support for the arts, culture and heritage sectors within New Zealand at central and local levels. It also examines the contribution by Lottery Board Grants to these sectors.
