The Heritage Operations unit honours and remembers contributions to New Zealand's development as a nation by caring for over 70 historic graves and 20 national monuments and memorials, including the National War Memorial in Wellington.
In 2004 the unit worked to establish the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at the National War Memorial in Wellington. It has also been involved in co-ordinating the design and construction of the New Zealand Memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra, the establishment of the Anzac commemorative site at Gallipoli and, more recently, New Zealand memorials in London and Korea.
