Creative New Zealand - Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa

Established in 1994 from a range of arts bodies, Creative New Zealand is the national agency for the development of the arts in New Zealand. 

At present the Ministry manages the Crown relationship with Creative New Zealand administering its funding and appointments to its Council, Arts Board and Te Waka Toi and monitoring its reporting and performance measures.

The composition of the Creative New Zealand governance structure is currently under review.

Arts Council of New Zealand - Creative New Zealand Arts Council

All members of the Council are appointed by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage.  Māori member appointments to the Council must be done in consultation with the Minister of Māori Affairs.  The composition of the Creative New Zealand governance structure is currently under review.

The Council has seven members including the Chair.

Arts Board of Creative New Zealand

The Arts Board and its role is part of the review of the Creative New Zealand governance structure being undertaken at present.

All members of the Arts Board are appointed by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and the Arts Board appoints members of the Pacific Arts Committee, the chair of the committee being a member of the Arts Board (currently Pele Walker).

The Arts Board has seven members including the Chair.

Te Waka Toi Board of Creative New Zealand

The Te Waka Toi Board's role is to support Māori arts through the allocation of funding to Māori arts, organisations and artists.  Te Waka Toi and its role is part of the review of the Creative New Zealand governance structure being undertaken at present.

All members are appointed by the Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage in consultation with the Minister of Māori Affairs. 

The Te Waka Toi board has seven members including the chair
