Whirinaki Toiora Trust

A celebration of Whirinaki Hapori through sharing of hitori o Te Tiriti o Waitangi ׀ Treaty of Waitangi and korero tuku iho pertaining to Whirinaki pre and post the signing of Te Tiriti and The Treaty. The day will consist of whakapapa, hitori, korero tuku iho, waiata, hakinakina and facilitation of conversations to gather hapori voice for future aspirations of the hapori.

Te Whānau o Waipareira Trust

The celebration encourages whānau from across Tāmaki Makaurau to participate in Waitangi Day through urban Māori kai, waiata, kapa haka, spot prizes, carnival rides, and local arts & crafts vendors.

On February 6, 2023, Waitangi@Waititi will commemorate the signing of Te Tiriti through an urban Māori lens to mark 183 years since the signing of Aotearoa NZ's founding document. Based on the WAI414 Claim, Waipareira are recognised as the first Urban Māori Treaty Partner, giving special significance to the day for the event.

To commemorate Waitangi Day, a slideshow of historic Waitangi images will be presented in the Hoani Waititi Marae wharenui, and a Waipareira Village established, showcasing te ao Māori during the lead-up to the event. This enables the celebration of te ao Māori through activities for the community, with a strong sense of urban Māori whakapapa being put on display for the community.

Te Roopu Taurima o Manukau

A day of participation, information, communication and celebration on Te Tiriti o Waitangi in four different locations. The day of each event will commence with pōwhiri or karakia/hīmene. This will be followed by korero by guest speakers on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. There will be display stands and resources available throughout the day. All korero and displays will be in the most simplistic form to accommodate our target group. To finish off the day we will have a quiz, kapa haka as music is a great tool for the people we support and a kai hākari.

Waiheke Community Art Gallery — Te Whare Taonga o Waiheke

The event offers inclusive opportunities to educate, foster, and express our cultural and artistic understandings of the Treaty and its importance within the national landscape. The kaupapa will employ the "Wai 262 Claim" as a springboard for creative expression. The Gallery intends to platform Te Tiriti o Waitangi to local communities by highlighting the treaty signing by Ngati Pāoa rangatira that occurred on Waiheke, Hauraki Gulf, and Waitemata at Karaka Bay on the 4th of March, and at Kawakawa Bay on the 7th July in 1840.

Waitomo District Council

A fun, free community day for our community to come together to commemorate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. There will be live music, cultural performances, and local history. Interactive craft stalls such as flax weaving, poi making and learn your mihi, will give our community an opportunity to learn or showcase a variety of traditional and modern crafts. Booklets and educational resources on Te Tiriti o Waitangi available throughout the day with a fun Scavenger hunt to help build knowledge.

The event aims to particularly highlight and showcase local Waikato artists, performers and creatives. The event also aims to deliver a festival suitable for all ages and cultures. We will invite local artists or experts to come teach audiences and communities how to speak and write their own Pepeha. We will invite local artists and weavers to come in and engage audiences of all ages to experience simple weaving techniques as a take home craft experience.

Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa Runanga Trust

Te Hononga Tiriti is a free, family fun day celebration bringing the Ngati Tahu – Ngati Whaoa (NTNW) iwi and Reporoa Community together. Interactive wharekura (houses of learning), educational activities, and kapa haka performances give participants the opportunity to learn about NTNW ancestors, places of significance and taonga. As a Treaty partner, Ngati Tahu - Ngati Whaoa (NT-NW) Runanga Trust are taking the lead to commemorate Waitangi on the 4th of February at Reporoa College, by educating our schools and community about their local Iwi. We have reached out to our schools as this event will be beneficial in supporting their journey of learning local iwi history and addressing the NZH curriculum.

He Iwi Kotahi Tauranga Moana Charitable Trust

The full day event traditionally begins with a powhiri from mana whenua. We have engaged a historian to create interactive storyboards revealing the untold stories of the Treaty in and around Tauranga Moana. And art workshops are presented on site. People can learn how to make poi, weave harakeke, and learn traditional games. It is a free family friendly event held at the Historic Village.

A whanāu day led by Te Paratehoata Marae (Tūnohopū) is Rotorua's official Waitangi event and is strongly supported by Rotorua Lakes Council and Te Tatau o Te Arawa. This event includes 8 themes - language, history, environment, food, wellbeing, sports & games, performing arts and visual arts. Each theme is presented in a variety of ways catering to all ages and interests including specialist talks, guided walks, entertainment, competitions, stalls, exhibitions, interactive and live displays. Specialist Talks e.g., how the Treaty of Waitangi applies today e.g., business / iwi partnerships, Treaty Trail (using QR codes).

This event includes a wananga about Te Tiriti, whakawhanaungatanga activities and cultural performances.

The annual pre-dawn karakia followed by the unveiling of the three Pou Rangatira (Te Hapuku Ika Nui o Te Moana, Hoanai Waikaoto & Harawira Mahikai) to commemorate these Rangatira who signed the Treaty of Waitangi for Te Matau a Māui/Hawkes Bay in the Waitangi Regional Park, Waipureku area. A hāngī breakfast and bilingual educational workshops / entertainment will follow.

This event is based solely around the commemoration of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi by four local chiefs in a site close by (Waipureku). The event will include a mass community hikoi (Walk of unity), haka powhiri, whaikorero, waiata, refreshments, korero by local historians, free waka rides and re-enactments of the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

We have partnered with Mana Whenua Ngati Hori ki Kohupatiki, Ngati Hawea ki Matahiwi and Ngati Hinemoa ki Pakdwhai who will officiate powhiri proceedings and assist with planning. The sharing of oral history from kaumatua and local historians is part of the day's proceedings.

Te Awanui a Roa Charitable Trust

The Kotahitanga Festival commemorates the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi by promoting both Te Reo and English and unity in the local community. Stall holders will help to promote Pakihi Māori and education. The event is MC'd in both English and Te Reo. We have a kaumatua tent and provide catering for our kaumatua. This kaupapa is run by Te Awanui A Rua which is a Hapu Trust and this has wide iwi involvement.

This event is in collaboration with the Horowhenua District Council, Horowhenua Lake Trust, Horowhenua Lake Domain Board, Raukawa Whanau Ora, Iwi Organisations, local schools & colleges, Department of Conservation, Te Puni Kokiri, Horizons and our strong contingent of entertainers that encompass culture & genres. Besides showcasing Muaūpokotanga through our waiata, pūrākau, tōhunga and whanaungatanga, local creative artists, weavers and entrepreneurs are coming to the fore.

Te Rā o Waitangi is a free event delivered by Wellington City Council for all people, showcasing Māori kai, music, performance, art and culture. It commemorates the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Wellington's place as the thriving political centre and begins with a karakia and korero from Taranaki Whanui. We work alongside Nga Taonga and museums to present video works showing the history of Waitangi, Māori and Te Whanganui a Tara.

Te Wharewaka o Pōneke is ideally situated to share local kaupapa from a Te Ātiawa o Taranaki perspective and be the conduit to bring us together in the Capital City for the simple act of sharing our cultures, and providing a sense of belonging, reinforcing the partnership with one another and opening up the door to continue the kōrero to further strengthen Treaty ties. Weaving demonstrations, exhibitions, waka rides, Hīkoikoi Kaumatua Rōpū will be onsite with waiata and storytelling.

Grey District Waitangi Day Picnic Committee

Our Waitangi Day Picnic is held on Waitangi Day (06 February 2023) to celebrate and educate our community about the Treaty of Waitangi.

The event is opened with a Karanga, welcomed by her worship the Mayor, Tania Gibson followed by the national anthem and a Kakakia from our local iwi. Our local schools perform multiple cultural performances including the kapa haka. An information station on the Treaty of Waitangi will be interactive for all ages.

Te Reo a Te Taiohi

The re-enactment of the signing will commemorate the day, and local music and kai will ensure manaaki is shown and aroha is foremost in our connections.

This event will showcase our whakawhanaungatanga and the connections between our communities by creating a remake of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi signing. We will have written displays as well as verbally acting out the treaty signing.

The event itself, along with the remake, will include hangi, music and interactive Te Reo eco-stations.

Westland Waitangi Day Commemoration will consist of pōwhiri at Lazer Park, Hokitika. A hangi will be laid down and there will be opportunities to have a go at kupenga (necklace making) and harakeke weaving. Paul Madgwick, a local historian, and the Kaiwhakahaere of Te Rūnaka o Makaawhio will be speaking on the history of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Tai o Poutini from a Poutini Ngāi Tahu perspective.

The event includes a day of entertainment (kapahaka groups, Bands, and Guest Speakers talking about the significance of Waitangi Day) and also has popular food stalls and arts and crafts providing more of their taonga and products for selling and educational purposes.

There will be unguided tours of our newly completed cultural precinct Puari Historical Tours of our Ngāi Tahu narratives the tours will include Ngāi Tahu’s perspective of Waitangi Day.
