Monday 6 February 2012 marks 172 years since the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
As well as the annual event to be held at Waitangi, many communities around the country will be commemorating the day in a variety of ways.
From an interactive public performance on the Picton Foreshore, to large festivals all over the country, the Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund, administered by Manatū Taonga, has given $288,000 to groups to help support these special events.

Waitangi Day is also an appropriate time to fly the national Māori Flag. Flying the New Zealand Flag together with the national Māori Flag on days of national significance such as Waitangi Day symbolises and enhances the Crown-Māori relationship.
