Manon van Kouswijk, Fabrizio Tridenti and Ted Noten

Published 31 January, 2012 by Editor

Objectspace is delighted to present two engaging installations by three internationally renowned jewellers Manon van Kouswijk, Fabrizio Tridenti and Ted Noten, timed to coincide with JEMposium in Wellington (10-13 Feb 2012), New Zealand's international contemporary jewellery symposium. All three of these jewellers will be in New Zealand as keynote speakers for JEMposium.

Ted Noten (Netherlands) has planned a video installation for the Objectspace Vault, while Manon van Kouswijk (Netherlands/Australia) and Fabrizio Tridenti (Italy) will be showing new work jointly in the Objectspace Main Gallery. Objectspace has commissioned leading international writers Meredith Turnbull (Australia) and Benjamin Lignel (France) to write about Manon van Kouswijk and Fabrizio Tridenti's practice for a publication (online) which accompanies their installations.

Manon van Kouswijk – installation Perles d'Artiste

Manon van Kouswijk will be presenting a series of porcelain objects along with a number of new necklaces in her installation titled Perles d'Artiste, shown collectively with Fabrizio Tridenti’s installation Anything. Publication contributor Benjamin Lignel (France) discusses the last ten years of van Kouswijk’s practice spent working on the bead necklace, “Amassing evidence that it is one of the elementary forms found in nature and culture.”

Fabrizio Tridenti – installation Anything

Fabrizio Tridenti has focused on the translation of objects and materials from one realm of production into another in his installation for Objectspace titled Anything, shown collectively with Manon van Kouswijk’s installation Perles d'Artiste. Publication contributor Meredith Turnbull (Australia) states of Tridenti’s pieces, “Each function as past, present and future objects. They belong to the industrial and mechanical worlds from which that are sourced. To the present world where they will be observed, handled and worn and to future worlds where, given time, others will wonder at their purpose and bring new readings to their forms and function.”

Ted Noten - video installation gold, sweat & pearls

Recently voted Dutch Artist of the Year (2011) and winner of the prestigious Françoise van den Bosch Prize in 2008, Ted Noten has previously shown at Objectspace in the 2007 exhibition European Voices in the Objectspace Vault.
Ted Noten is well known for his cheeky pieces of jewellery. Ted Noten states, “I make jewellery that takes some time getting used to. When you wear it, you make yourself vulnerable as it makes such a striking statement. I speak out through my jewellery and objects. I comment upon jewellery as a phenomenon, upon the industry, or – like any artist – upon humanity.” Directed by Simone de Vries, this 53 minute documentary is an intimate portrait of the artist.
