The Ministry wants a photo of every one of the 3600 soldiers who served in the 28th Māori Battalion during World War 2.
We are trying to source from family members a photo of every one of the men to be uploaded on our Māori Battalion website.
About 900 photos have been collected over the past 15 years of men who served in the C Company - one of the five companies in the battalion.
There are 44 veterans still alive, with an average age of 90.
The project coordinator, Monty Soutar hopes to collect all of the photos while the veterans are still alive.
For more details, please visit the 28 Māori Battalion website or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Photos can be contributed via the website or posted to the 28 Māori Battalion website, Manatu Taonga – the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, PO Box 5364, Wellington.
