Waitangi Day Funding Applications Extended

Published 09 September, 2010 by Editor

Applications are currently open for The Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund, which supports events celebrating New Zealand’s identity by commemorating the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi at a community level.

In light of the recent Christchurch earthquake the Ministry for Culture and Heritage has extended the funding application deadline for those in the Canterbury region. The new date for applications for Canterbury residents is now October 1st 2010.

Last year The Commemorating Waitangi Day Fund gave communities the chance to host kai festivals, marae open days, workshops, and public performances, helping to build ties between local and national celebrations.

Projects run in partnership between local authorities, community groups and tangata whenua are particularly encouraged.

The fund closes to applications from those in the Canterbury region at 5pm on the 1st of October. For the rest of New Zealand the application deadline is 5pm on the 17th of September. More information and help is available on the Ministry’s website www.mch.govt.nz, by emailing waitangi.fund@mch.govt.nz or by calling 04 499 4229.
