Aroha Beck (Tapuika) has been appointed to the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) Board for a four-year term from 9 May 2022.

Aroha is a Wairarapa-based lawyer and consultant with a long career in public law, with considerable knowledge of regulatory bodies and functions. Her career has included senior legal roles at the Ministry for Primary Industries, Department of Internal Affairs, the Real Estate Authority, the Environmental Protection Authority, and Te Ohu Kaimoana. She is also a former member of the New Zealand Press Council (now known as the New Zealand Media Council).

“I’m pleased to see Aroha’s appointment to the Board and am confident in the kaupapa of best regulatory practice she brings with her,” said Pou Mataaho o Te Aka, Deputy Chief Executive, Policy and Sector Performance Emily Fabling.

“Aroha’s rich experiences across public service in addition to her legal credentials, will make her an excellent asset to the BSA.”

The appointment of Aroha is the final of three recent appointments, completing the four-member BSA Board.

The BSA is an independent Crown entity that oversees and promotes broadcasting standards on behalf of New Zealanders. It is governed by a four-member board, consisting of a chairperson and three other members who are appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister for Broadcasting and Media, Hon Kris Faafoi.
