Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage will defer its application for landowner consent from the Waitematā Local Board for the National Erebus Memorial, Project Lead Brodie Stubbs said today.

 “We have decided to defer our application for final landowner approval until resource consent and Heritage New Zealand approvals have been secured. We consider these processes will usefully inform the Board’s final decision.

“We have undertaken a robust process with respect to progressing this Memorial. We have already met the requirements set by the Board when it granted landowner approval in principle last year.

“We will be in contact with the Board about arranging an alternative time in 2020.

“The proposed memorial Te Paerangi Ataata - Sky Song is an elegant and considered design which would sit gracefully on the landscape at Dove-Myer Robinson Park in Parnell,” Brodie Stubbs said.

Te Paerangi Ataata - Sky Song was announced as the winning design for the National Erebus Memorial in April 2019 following a national design competition. It was designed by Studio Pacific Architecture in collaboration with artists Jason O’Hara and Warren Maxwell.
