Memorial Protocols

The National War Memorial’s governance is administered by the Ministry through the National War Memorial Act 1992.

Any requests for use of the Memorial are to be made in writing to the Curator who will contact the National War Memorial Advisory Council for consideration.

Current members of the National War Memorial Advisory Council are:

  • Rear Adm (Rtd) David Ledson, ONZM - Chair
  • Maj (Rtd) Fiona Cassidy
  • Mr Lewis Holden, CE of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage
  • Air Vice Marshal (Rtd) Robin Klitscher. CBE, DFC, AFC
  • Lt General (Rtd) Don McIver, CMG, OBE.

The National War Memorial does not permit any commercial activity either inside the building or elsewhere within its grounds.

The consumption of alcohol is prohibited at all times.

Visitors are welcome to take photos except for promotional purposes.

Image of poppies available at the National War Memorial.

You are also welcome to place flowers and other items of remembrance in the Hall of Memories or by the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior.  Poppies are available for personal tributes.
