Cultural Statistics Programme

This programme is operated jointly by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Statistics New Zealand. It was established in 1995 to improve the range and quality of statistical information about the cultural sector. The information produced is designed to support cultural policy development, enhance decision making in the cultural sector and monitor trends over time.

Cultural Indicators for New Zealand

A set of cultural indicators has recently been developed as part of the cultural statistics programme. Indicators are key measures which can be easily understood and used to monitor trends over time. Rather than simply presenting data, indicators are evaluative and any change in an indicator indicates whether there is an improvement or deterioration in the wellbeing of the cultural sector.
