This report comments on a review of Creative New Zealand's policies and procedures for assessing and allocating grants.
The majority of entries listed are New Zealand-funded. Artists and cultural workers from anywhere in New Zealand are eligible. A small number of overseas initiatives, for which New Zealanders are eligible, are also included. The awards information is regularly updated.
A guide to New Zealand's cultural policies and agencies has been prepared by the Ministry as a contribution to a database for the Asia/Pacific region.
This paper summarises the Ministry's views on the reasons for government's involvement in the cultural sector and the roles it performs.

The government has released Building a Strong and Sustainable Public Broadcasting Environment for New Zealand - A Programme of Action. The document outlines six priorities to guide public broadcasting policy development over the next six years. (03 February, 2005)
The government sought feedback from the public and industry, by 30 April 2004, on possible improvements to the way government organises its support for screen production in New Zealand. (29 March 2004 )
The Ministry for Culture and Heritage sought expressions of interest from organisations that may be interested in applying for the licence for the non-commercial radio frequency 0.810 Mhz in the AM band in Auckland. Applications closed 30 April 2004. (01 March 2004 )

This document outlines government policy for departments' best practice management of historic heritage. The Ministry for Culture and Heritage is assisting departments to develop guidelines for the policy's implementation.
This document sets out the policy parameters for the scheme, the application process and the text of the model indemnity deed.
This review considers these specific issues: the extent to which Te Papa had achieved its founding Concept, in the terms approved by Government in 1992; the effectiveness of its presentation of "the National Art Collection"; the level of commitment it has shown toward scholarship and research; and any other maters concerning its exhibitions which relation to the presentation of a national museum.

Tourism New Zealand, on behalf of an inter-government cultural working group, commissioned a research programme to gain a better understanding of the current demand for cultural tourism products and to identify any gaps in supply that may exist. The research consisted of both qualitative and quantitative research among domestic visitors, international visitors to New Zealand and potential international visitors to New Zealand. A document providing a summary of the findings of this research can be found on the Tourism New Zealand website. (2003).
From time to time, the Ministry undertakes research on cultural sponsorship. The research for the 1999 and 2001 reports was conducted in association with Statistics New Zealand.
This programme is operated jointly by the Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Statistics New Zealand. It was established to improve the range and quality of information available on the cultural sector, particularly for the development of cultural policy, for future planning, for monitoring the sector's progress and performance, for marketing the sector's products and services, and for use in seeking funding and sponsorship support. Hard copies of these reports can be ordered from Statistics New Zealand.
This report contains the key findings of an attitudinal survey carried out in 1994 and again in 1997. The objectives of the survey were to identify how the public defines New Zealand's culture, to measure the value New Zealanders place on culture, to gauge levels of interest in culture and cultural activities and to measure perceived and preferred levels of media coverage of cultural activities compared with sport, business and gardening.
