The 28th Māori Battalion website is a place to record, remember, honour and maintain information and knowledge of the Māori Battalion and its outstanding contribution to Aotearoa New Zealand.
This site and its related resources has been developed for the benefit of the remaining veterans, their families and for all New Zealanders. It has been developed in partnership with Te Puni Kōkiri, the National Library of New Zealand and the Ministry of Education.
We are collecting photos of all 3600 men who served in the Māori Battalion. Can you help? In the above image gallery, you will see posters from our campaign 'A photo for every man'.
Visit www.28maoribattalion.org.nz or connect with us online to learn about the many ways you can contribute images and memories.
In December 2012, a ceremony was held to mark the winding up of the National Association of the 28th Māori Battalion. Images from the National War Memorial ceremony are available on the the Ministry's flickr page.
A Final Official Luncheon booklet was also produced for the Pipitea Marae event. Monty Soutar researched and wrote the stories on the history of the 28th Māori Battalion (NZ) Association, the Māori Battalion’s Return from War and “Tū Māori Mai”. A full text-copy of the booklet is available on Te Puni Kokiri's website.
