Dictionary of New Zealand Biography

Published 02 August, 2012 by admin

Find out about the people who have helped shape our country, in the online Dictionary of New Zealand Biography (DNZB). You will find the online Dictionary of New Zealand Biography at http://www.teara.govt.nz/en/biographies.

There are over 3000 biographies that were originally published in the printed Dictionary of New Zealand Biography between 1990 and 2000, and in the parallel Māori language series Nga Tangata Taumata Rau.  In 2011, we released an e-book, Ngā Tāngata Taumata Rau, 1769-1960 which contains Māori language biographies from all published volumes to date.

The DNZB does not include living people. If you’re looking for someone but can’t find them in the DNZB you could try the biographical database that was created when the dictionary was set up.

If you have any photos of profiled people, we’d love to see them – contact us.
