Media release — 5 June, 2025 We’re on the lookout for highly experienced board members who are interested in leading two of Aotearoa New Zealand’s sporting and media boards.Leauanae Laulu Mac Leauanae, Tumu Whakarae Secretary for Culture and Heritage, says this is an opportunity for highly experienced industry executives to contribute to two significant boards.“This is a unique opportunity for New Zealand’s community of directors. It’s not every day that we are advertising for two quite different Board Chair roles, Sport New Zealand (Sport NZ) and the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA),” says Leauanae.“Leading the board of Sport NZ involves driving the organisation to enrich the play, active recreation and sport system of our country. A demonstrated background of excellent public sector governance will be a key factor for this role.“Chairing the board of the BSA requires a high degree of legal knowledge, specifically with considerable experience of the High Court. It is a significant role that helps uphold the high bar for broadcasting standards in New Zealand.“Both roles will be rewarding and challenging. The successful candidates will be leading the boards in setting strategic direction and priorities, developing board policies and expectations, identifying and managing risks, and monitoring and evaluating the performance of the organisation. “The Ministry supports Ministers to make appointments including searching for top-quality candidates. I look forward to supporting our Ministers to appoint these roles,” says Leauanae.
