About the Atatürk Memorial service

A wreathlaying service is held each year at the Memorial to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the first president of the Republic of Türkiye. The memorial is located on a ridge above Tarakena Bay on the south coast of Wellington.

Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the landing of New Zealand and Australian soldiers – the Anzacs – on the Gallipoli Peninsula (in modern day Türkiye) in 1915.

An estimated 250,000 Turkish and Arab troops were killed or wounded defending Gallipoli.
