New Zealand artists can now receive royalty payments as at 1 December 2024.

The Artist Resale Royalty Scheme recognises the contribution of artists to New Zealand’s economy and culture.

The Scheme allows a five percent royalty to be collected each time eligible artworks are resold  on the secondary market over the threshold of $2000.  

The Scheme is administered by Resale Royalties Aotearoa Toi Huarau, a non-profit subsidiary of Copyright Licensing New Zealand.

The scheme fulfills New Zealand's Free Trade Agreements with the United Kingdom and the European Union, bringing New Zealand in line with global standards to ensure artists are fairly compensated when their work is resold.
